Bahu Begam Ka Maqbara, Ayodhya Overview

Bahu Begam Ka Maqbara, located in the holy city of Ayodhya, stands as a majestic mausoleum to honour the memory of the beloved wife of Mughal emperor- Aurangzeb, Rabia Durani. It was built by Aurangzeb in memory of his beloved wife in 1660 and is a befitting monument of Mughal grandeur. The structure of the mausoleum is made of pure white marble and each facade is ornately crafted in symmetric patterns. Even the details of the craftsmanship look strikingly similar to that of Taj Mahal, which was built by Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife MumtazMahal. The intricately designed carvings and motifs further enhance the overall beauty of the mausoleum, which together makes it a sight of architectural marvel. Visitors can see four minarets surrounding the main domed structure and the incline of the plinth is prominent from the street. The centre of the mausoleum has a cenotaph of Rabia Durani and around it are four open chambers with cenotaphs of her daughters.

Inside the chambers, Gandhara style stuccos are adorned with motifs and scriptures from the holy Qur’an.The beauty of Bahu Begam Ka Maqbara, even after centuries, still remains intact and serves as a reminder of the grandeur of the Mughal Empire. This majestic mausoleum attracts a significant number of visitors every year who come to marvel at its beauty and its historical significance.

The overall beauty and the historical legacy it conveys is sure to leave visitors awestruck.
