Located in the southern region of the country, the park was established in 1966 and is home to some of the rarest and most amazing species in the world.Spanning an area of over 1,057 square kilometres, the park is a biodiversity hotspot and includes different landscapes ranging from evergreen forests to alpine meadows and massive rivers. It boasts an incredible variety of flora and fauna, including over 500 species of plants, more than 300 species of birds and over 60 species of mammals.The park is best known for its variety of rare species, including Bengal tigers, Asian elephants, and Gangetic dolphins, among others. It also plays host to numerous species of endangered wildlife, including the critically endangered Asiatic wild dog, the vulnerable Red panda, and the endangered Binturong.In addition to its abundance of wildlife, the park is also home to numerous archeological sites, including Khamsum Yuelley Namgyel Chorten, one of the oldest Buddhist monuments in Bhutan. The park also contains sacred sites such as hot springs and the holy river of Manas.What makes Royal Manas National Park truly unique are the conservation efforts that have been undertaken to protect its habitat.
