Raj Ghat is the memorial located in Delhi, India, which commemorates Mahatma Gandhi, the leader of Indian independence movement. It is the spot where Gandhi was cremated after his assassination in 1948. The Raj Ghat was originally built out of black stone by the Indian government and covered with flowers and feathered palms.This memorial of Mahatma Gandhi is a popular national monument and is visited all year round by both the natives and tourists. At the centre of the memorial is the memorial itself, a 16 feet high black marble platform which is inscribed on the east side with a memorial inscription in English.The memorial site is also home to the National Memorial Museum and Mahatma Gandhi's Research Institute, which showcase his life and works. The grounds around the memorial feature various landmarks honouring other famous Indian leaders including Jawaharlal Nehru, Lal Bahadur Shastri and I.K. Gujral.Visitors to Raj Ghat have the option of making offerings of flowers and lighted candles in remembrance of Mahatma Gandhi. There are also multiple Gandhi-themed souvenirs and items which can be purchased at the memorial.
