Thiksey Monastery, located in the gorgeous region of Leh-Ladakh in India, is a stunning 12 storey monastery owned by the Gelugpa sect of Buddhism.

On the day of the festival, monks dressed in colorful mask-costumes perform sacred Buddhist chants and perform traditional dances. This ritual is accompanied by the melodious string music produced by the monks' traditional instruments.The interiors of the monastery display some of the most beautiful wall paintings and sculptures owned by the Gelugpa sect of Buddhism, dedicated to Maitreya as well as many vivid images of different deities.What’s more, is that the monastery premises houses several other attractions like the Nalanda Institute and Gakar temple. The former is a museum and a school dedicated to preserving the legacy of ancient Buddhist scriptures. The latter is a pills structure built in the 15th century.
