Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve (KTWLR), located in the southeastern corner of Nepal, is an important bird watching paradise and a must-see destination for capturing vibrant flora and fauna. Its position, a flat stretch of land which lies within the Sapta-Koshi river system, is home to a variety of unique wetlands, grasslands, mudflats and marshes.

Much of the KTWLR is densely vegetated with a unique type of vegetative formation, known as the Terai grassland formation. The native grasses and wildflowers are living reminders of the area’s former days as a grassland mosaic and stand proud as part of the lush landscape. In addition, over 4,000 hectares of the KTWLR are covered in a mosaic of forests, which act as barriers between the various habitats and streams. Flanked by the beautiful Lumbini and Annapurna National Parks, the KTWLR is considered one of the best bird watching spots in Nepal, offering a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere for visitors.
