Trek to Tungnath and Chandrashila, Chopta Overview

Chopta is a lesser-known destination, nestled in the majestic Uttarakhand Himalayas, which draws nature lovers and adventure seekers from all over the world. One of the most popular activities in Chopta is the Trek to Tungnath and Chandrashila. The trek starts from the small village of Chopta, passing through forests of pine, rhododendron and maple. The trek to Tungnath is a moderate trek through forests and meadows.

It is also the most famous and the shortest among the Panch Kedar treks and takes about 2-3 hours ascend and 1-2 hours to descend. After reaching the Tungnath temple, you get spectacular views of the Himalayas from the highest Shiva temple in the world. Once you reach the top, you will be rewarded with breath-taking views of Trishul and Nanda Devi, and Mukut Parbat. From Tungnath, you can trek further up to the Chandrashila peak, located at 4000m. Here, you get a panoramic 360-degree view of the Himalayan range.

This further trek takes around 2-3 hours to cover, depending on your speed. Along the way, you also get to see the mesmerizing views of the adjacent snow peaks and villages.Chopta also serves as a base camp for many long treks and offers many other activities such as safaris, bird watching, fishing, and river rafting. And with the picturesque landscapes of the Himalayan Range, this destination is worth spending a few days and exploring the nature. The Trek to Tungnath and Chandrashila makes it the most popular activity in Chopta and should be on the to-do list of adventure seekers visiting Uttarakhand!
