Ukhimath is a small but unique town located close to Chopta in Uttarakhand, India. Famous as the “Winter seat of Lord Kedarnath”, Ukhimath is of great religious significance to Hindus. Ukhimath is known for its Rath Yatra that takes place every July, in honor of Lord Kedarnath.
During the colorful procession, the deity is adorned with rich silk garments and is escorted through the streets of the town. The town is also home to numerous ancient temples like Madhyamaheshwar Mandir, Kalimath Mandir, and Gupt Kashi. The magnificent view of the meandering valleys and the green pastures makes this town even more enchanting. To reach Ukhimath from Chopta, it will take about 3–4 hours to cover a distance of 70 km by road. If you don't wish to take your own car, you can also hire a taxi or a cab.
