Achalgarh Fort, Mount Abu Overview

Achalgarh Fort, located about 11 km from Mount Abu, is one of the most popular tourist attractions of the region, offering a peek into the varied history of the place. Built around 14th century, Achalgarh Fort has been declared as a protected monument by the Archaeological Survey of India and is still in a fairly well-preserved state. The fort is primarily based on two main structures, featuring attractive exquisitely carved stone pillars, balconies, arches, cornices, balconies and pillars exhibiting mesmerizing Rajput architecture.The fort is innermost citadel enclosed by three fortified watch posts, with the innermost enclosing two main grounds. One main ground located nearer to the hills is used as a garden area while the second open flat ground has several memorials related to Maharao Lakha and other rules. The main attractions include a magnificently built rock-cut Temple Lord Shiva – locally known as Kantinath Temple. Featuring an exquisite figure of Nandi bull at the entrance, ant-hills are seen on the right side of the entrance and is marked by a water-pool left and right. The fort also houses the temple of Goddess Durga, a rock-cut shrine which is located on the hill peak, and surrounded by fresh water pond.This historic monument also offers a spectacular view of the valley and the surrounding wildlife. Besides the views, it also houses a small museum that exhibits artifacts from the period of Maharao Lakha. There is also a cave known as Kali Temple at the Achalgarh, and it is believed to be 500 years old.

The route to the fort takes visitors through lush green forests, valleys, mountains and a picturesque lake.
