Murud-Janjira is one of the most impressive and imposing historical monuments located at the Murud Beach in the Raigad district of Maharashtra, India. It is a massive coastal fort, which stands majestically atop an oval rock island, surrounded by turbulent, crystal-blue waters and vast expanse of white sand. Built-in the 17th century by a local prince, the Murud-Janjira Fort is a majestic structure, with its castellated towers, ramparts and turrets. It acts as a vivid reminder of the might and grandeur of the then-powerful Siddi dynasty of Janjira.The fort is dotted with 37 bastions and walls that are more than 30 feet high and 12 feet thick, meticulously cut out of the rock. The tallest of the bastions, Kalal Bangadi, rises to a height of 50 feet and also serves as a lighthouse. Inside the fortification, lie several canons, with unique and creative designs. Some of these are sculptured from an entire single rock and are adorned with beautiful patterns.This historical marvel offers its visitors a wealth of experiences, from thrilling boat rides and breathtaking views of the Arabian Sea, to allowing exploration of its secrets and architecture.
