Nishat Bagh, Srinagar Overview

Nishat Bagh, also known as the Garden of Joy, is one of the most awe-inspiring tourist attractions in the Kashmir valley of India. Located on the eastern side of the famous Dal Lake, it was built in 1633 by Asif Khan, the brother-in-law of Emperor Jahangir. Surrounded by tall Chinar trees, it is a fabulous terraced Mughal garden spread across two hundred forty two hectares of land. The large boulevards of the garden are embellished with fountains, coloured stone motifs, and beautiful plant arrangements.The twelve terraces of the garden represent the twelve signs of the Zodiac and symbolize a paradise garden. Each terrace is stretch in height of 20 feet, thus ascending while going up the terraces. The uppermost terrace at the back of the garden has a Bagh-i-Wah sitting enclosure and fountains. The highest point offers breathtaking views of the Zabarwan Range and the Dal Lake. The visage of the Dal Lake with the reflections of the snow-capped mountains in its water is truly mesmerizing sight.The main attraction of the garden are the flowers, waterfalls, and fountains.
